My Mum’s Best Greece Holiday

Filed under: Travel Tips — Tags: — admin @ 6:01 pm

My mum always wanted to go to Greece so I surprised her with a Greece holiday for her 50th birthday. We went to Santorini, and stayed in Oia, which is known for some of the best sunsets in the world. Mum loved browsing the little jewellery stores which were dotted along the clifftop, and she bought a beautiful silver ring with a topaz gem in it, as a birthday present to herself. Actually, mum bought quite a few birthday presents for herself! We also went to Crete, where mum bought some ceramic dishes from one of the little stores behind the port in Chania. We also had a really good meal out there, in a little open-air restaurant. I have the best moussaka I’d ever tasted while mum had some delicious lamb koftas. On the way home she said it was the best trip of her life which made me really happy.

How to Easily Access Tsavo East Wildlife Sanctuary

Filed under: Destinations — Tags: — admin @ 6:50 pm

It is easy to access Tsavo East National Park from mainly Nairobi or Mombasa cities. Many travel and guide companies in Kenya will transport you by road via a number of routes. If you will enter Kenya via Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the best route to follow is the Mtito Andei Gate, which is two hundred and forty kilometers away from the capital. If you come to the country via Mombasa’s Moi International Airport or Kilindini Harbor, there are a number of routes that you can follow to this park. If you want to enter through the Mtito Andei Gate, you will cover two hundred and fifty kilometers by road. If you follow the Voi- Mombasa route, you will travel ninety six kilometers and if you follow the western road from Malindi you can get in through Sala Gate. There being a few airstrips near the park, you could also ask your tour operator to arrange a plane safari, especially if you are in Kenya on a short trip.

Saving Money to Have Fun!

Filed under: Destinations — Tags: — admin @ 2:22 am

Since everyone’s favorite time of year is coming up we have decided to do something special this year for it. Christmas is a wonderful holiday that includes great food, fun with family and friends, and a lot of joyful activities that brings everyone together. I have decided that we should do something completely different than we ever have before. I want to go on a family vacation down to Flordia. I think it would be a great experience for all of the younger children that are finally old enough to travel without it being of much concern. I have began researching for cheap hotel packages for my family and I. I have found a lot of these packages including air fare and even the admissions into the theme parks which is exactly what we are needing. By doing this I am hoping we save some money so this trip does not really hurt anyone financially.

Dominican Republic Excursions – Buying the Best Cigar

Cigar lovers would certainly enjoy a Dominican Republic Excursion that takes them to the ‘heart of cigar land’. In the Dominican Republic they make the best handrolled cigars in the world. Today, the Dominican Republic is the largest cigar producer in the world. Decades have been spent in perfecting the quality of their cigar. It’s a haven for cigar lovers.

Cigars of different shapes, aromas and even flavors can be found on special cigar or tobacco shops. Cigar souvenir shops and museums can also be found in different parts of the city as well as local tours on cigar factories are being arranged for tourists. They also come in cheap compared to other cigar manufacturing countries but quality is not compromised. High end cigar brands can be found on cigar specialty stores and are more expensive.

Local shops and supermarkets also carry wide varieties of Dominican Republic cigars. But it is best to see and experience authentic cigar makers who would make fresh handmade cigars being rolled out in front of you. They are skillfully trained to roll out excellent cigars. Dominican Republic cigars also come in different colors. The darker the wrapping of the cigar gets, the stronger the taste and aroma. It is also sweeter compared to lighter colored cigars because of higher concentration of oils and sugar on the leaves.

Be sure to buy premium Dominican cigar when you go shopping. They are great souvenir items to bring to your friends and families. Just be sure you are getting the authentic handmade cigars. Counterfeits cigars are also abundant in this country. If you are going to buy cigars on streets or local shops, make sure that these are freshly rolled out in front of you. Better yet, ask a local tourist guide who will inform you which are the best brands of cigars and where to find them.

Traveling Light and Easy

Filed under: Travel Tips — Tags: — admin @ 9:40 am

A few years ago when I decided to pack my bags and go backpacking around the world for eight months, I had no idea what to pack.

I made some silly decisions, like packing down two pairs of high heels, and convinces my boyfriend to bring his suit jacket.

I was a little too positive thinking, and although we had all these nice clothes with us, we barely ever used them.

Instead I carried them around in my huge and heavy backpack, and my back was hurting more and more every day, although that was nothing I ever mentioned in the travel blogs we wrote to keep our friends and family updated back home.

After a few weeks I got sick of how hard it was to close my bag because I had too much in it, and after reading other travel blogs talking about getting over your fears and just start throwing things out, I finally decided to throw some stuff out.

At first it was extremely difficult as I did not like to get rid of things, I always saved everything because I thought I would need it one day.

But once I carried the backpack around afterwards, and realized that it was easier to pull the zippers up, I realized what a good decision it was to get rid of stuff I deep down knew I would not use anyway, so I got rid of some more.

A few weeks later my backpack was so light I could carry it as a “carry-on” luggage, and I loved how easy everything had become.

I got more and more into lightweight traveling, and today, two years later, now with camera gear and extra things like two lap tops, I still travel with carry-on luggage, all I do is bring less clothing.

I will never travel with check-in luggage again!

Off to Europe for a Skiing Expedition

Filed under: Destinations — Tags: — admin @ 5:31 am

I received a sizeable bonus through work late last year, and I couldn’t wait to get out and spend a large chunk of it indulging in my favorite pastime: hitting the ski slopes. Not content to visit Colorado or another locale in the United States, I set my eyes on taking a trip to Europe and visiting a country I’ve never been to before. How about Andorra? Most people haven’t even heard of this small country. Even better, they have an excellent Ski resorts for the discerning traveler. I went online to look up my options and soon found a great site that helps set up reservations all across Europe. With just a few clicks of the mouse I had everything set up and ready to go. I can’t wait to hit the slopes in this tiny European country. It’s so far off the beaten track that I’m hoping to avoid the ski bums in Switzerland and other well-known areas.

When it comes to self catering France really has quite a selection of places available. My wife always likes doing holidays that way because she doesn’t like to have other people in the our room when were not around, and she enjoys cooking so it doesn’t make sense to eat out. The problem is, at home she doesn’t have time to cook because she’s so busy with work that she comes home exhausted. So for her, it’s ideal to be able to spend all afternoon preparing a delicious dinner that would beat anything you’d ever find in any restaurants anyway. And what about me, you may ask? Well, as for me, I love it because I get the best food you’ve ever tasted in your life.

Filed under: Cruises — Tags: — admin @ 10:53 pm

In preparation for my wealth of articles about the Caribbean cruises 2012 season, I plan to add information about side trips and attractions on land. My entries are well articulated, to the point and filled with helpful facts to assist you in making the best decisions about when and where to take your Caribbean cruise. I in no way intend to bash other travel web sites that provide a significantly thinner amount of data, it is simply that I am a professional travel writer and novelist and therefore, I hold myself to a higher standard than hobbyists. One will never find one of the blogish “what I did on my vacation” type articles. You will get information that is only available from sources that have been there. There will be information about local attractions that heretofore may be unknown by many high profile travel agencies. I make my living writing about travel, thanks to all of you who visit my web sites. I am grateful and humbled by your continued support and positive feedback.

The Thunder Roared Above Us

Filed under: Destinations — Tags: — admin @ 2:14 pm

Tropical climates are prone to thunderstorms. I have never really been partial to them, due to the fact that a tree in my garden at home was once struck by a bolt of lightning during the middle of the day. The bolt came from out of nowhere it seemed. I heard thunder in the distance but thought it was going to pass through the mountains. It shattered my windows and left my Labrador a nervous wreck. On one of our vacations in Bahamas, a thunderstorm began to brew. I was nervous, mostly due to the fact that the cottage we stayed in was directly beneath two very tall palm trees, and it had a thatched roof. I ran into the main lodge and called the manager, asking him how long he thought the storm would continue. He told me that it may continue through the night. Seeing my distraught expression he asked me if there was something wrong. I told him my experience with lightning. He called a porter to get our bags from our cottage, and that night we slept in the honeymoon suite, free of charge.
